Mercy Home

Jilumol Mariet Thomas

Jilumol, born with thalidomide syndrome and without arms, came to Mercy Home at the age
of five after the death of her mother. Through the dedicated training of Sr. Mariella, the
occupational therapist at Mercy Home, Jilu learned to perform daily activities like writing,
drawing, operating a computer, and even taking photographs using her feet. She went on to
complete a B.A. in Animation and Graphic Designing from St. Joseph’s College of
Communication. Jilu made history by becoming the first woman without arms in Asia to obtain
a four-wheeler driver’s license. Her artwork, painted with her feet and mouth, has won global
acclaim, making her an inspiration to many.
