Free Medical Camp at MRT

Mercy Home and MRT, in collaboration with Medical College Kottayam, organized a free eye camp on December 14, 2024, as part of the National Program for Control of Blindness. Led by Dr. Varsha and a team of four doctors and six staff, the camp screened 51 individuals. Eleven were prescribed spectacles and five referred for further care. Manamel Opticals, Changanassery, kindly donated the eyeglasses.

Golden Jubilee Celebrations –2024

Mercy Home celebrated 50 years of service on August 4, 2024, at Christu Jyoti Hall, Chethipuzha. The event was inaugurated by Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil, with highlights including the release of the Jubilee Magazine and awards to nine achievers. Cultural performances and heartfelt messages marked the occasion, concluding with a vote of thanks and tea gathering.

Karunya Hastam

As part of the Golden Jubilee, Mercy Home organized Karunya Hastam, a heartfelt gathering of well-wishers. Sr. Selin Jose SD chaired the event, featuring greetings, a motivational talk by Rev. Fr. Gregory Onakulam, and participation from Friends of the Destitute. The program concluded with a children’s art festival and a vote of thanks by Sr. Reeja SD. Guests were honored with gifts.

House of Mercy – Karunya Bhavanam

As part of the Golden Jubilee, Mercy Home built a house for former resident Lissy Jomon in Vadavathur, Kottayam. The foundation was laid on October 12, 2023, and the housewarming held on February 25, 2024. The ₹10 lakh project was blessed by Rev. Fr. Thomas Kallukulam and S.D. Provincial Mother Deepthi Jose. Mercy Home thanks all benefactors for their generous support.

Parents Meeting

A parents meeting was held on May 30, 2024, at the Mercy Home Auditorium. Social Worker Shinta Charly welcomed the attendees, while Director Sr. Selin Jose SD presented the annual report. Sr. Ann Jose SD
delivered greetings, followed by an awareness session by Clinical Psychologist Sr. Tess SD on caring for children with disabilities. Children performed cultural programs, and attendees joined in singing hymns. Sr. Lilly Maria expressed her heartfelt thanks, concluding the gathering with gratitude and blessings.

Alumni Reunion

The Mercy Home Alumni Reunion 2K24 was held on June 1-2 with joyful reunions and reflections. Fr. Thomas Kallukulam led a spiritual session, followed by an evening of shared memories. The main event on June 2 at St. Thomas Auditorium, St. Thomas Hospital, featured a Divine Liturgy by Mar Thomas, alumni honors, and a general meeting inaugurated by Fr. James P. Kunnathu. The celebrations included cultural performances and
concluded with a tea party, supported by Friends of the Institute, MRT staff, and well-wishers.

Reception for Cardinal Mar George Koovakkattu

On December 25, 2024, Cardinal Mar George Koovakkattu, newly declared Cardinal by Pope Francis, visited Mercy Home, blessing the members. Sr. Selin Jose SD welcomed him with a bouquet, and the children performed art programs during the celebration.

Christmas Celebrations

Christmas was celebrated with Holy Mass led by Changanassery Archdiocese Chancellor. After the Mass, children performed songs, dances, and skits. On December 24, they were invited to Changanassery Police
Station, where they celebrated with actor Joe Antony by cutting a cake.

Excursion to Kumily Rose Garden

This year’s excursion was to Kumily Rose Garden. The group, including Sisters and staff, left at 7:30 AM, first visiting St. Thomas Forane Church, Pattumala, for spiritual preparation. At Rose Park, the children enjoyed games and activities, with free lunch and tickets provided. The group returned safely by 9:30 PM, cherishing a joyous and memorable experience.

Art Fair for the Differently Abled

Children from Mercy Home participated in the ‘Wings of Wonder’ Art Competition at Lions Club International, Konni, and the Art Fest organized by Vazhapally Panchayat, winning multiple prizes in dance, solo performance, fancy dress, painting, and coloring.
