Adv. Joby Mathew, a world champion wrestler, is a testament to the transformative power of
Mercy Home. Born in Adukkam, Pala, Joby’s father passed away when he was just five years
old. At six, he was admitted to Mercy Home, where he faced the challenges of being
physically impaired, with underdeveloped legs. However, Joby’s determination led him to
complete his studies and pursue a law degree (L.L.B). He became an advocate and even
worked as the Public Relations Officer at Santhigiri College. Today, Joby is a legal expert for
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and he is well-known internationally, not only
for his professional accomplishments but also for his resilience in overcoming personal
obstacles.

Jilumol Mariet Thomas

Jilumol, born with thalidomide syndrome and without arms, came to Mercy Home at the age
of five after the death of her mother. Through the dedicated training of Sr. Mariella, the
occupational therapist at Mercy Home, Jilu learned to perform daily activities like writing,
drawing, operating a computer, and even taking photographs using her feet. She went on to
complete a B.A. in Animation and Graphic Designing from St. Joseph’s College of
Communication. Jilu made history by becoming the first woman without arms in Asia to obtain
a four-wheeler driver’s license. Her artwork, painted with her feet and mouth, has won global
acclaim, making her an inspiration to many.

Roy Devasia

Roy Devasia, whose legs were paralyzed by polio at a young age, was another resident of Mercy Home. He learned to move independently with crutches, and the schooling he received at Mercy Home fueled his drive for a brighter future. Roy is currently a government employee working at the PWD Buildings Sub-Division Office in Alappuzha, where he serves as an inspiring example of overcoming adversity and contributing to society.

Mini Joseph, who came to Mercy Home at the age of 10, was born with a disability that made walking difficult. With the help of physiotherapy and the guidance of Sr. Mariella, she learned to walk with the assistance of calipers and crutches. After completing her pre-degree and later pursuing computer studies, Mini passed several PSC exams and secured a job at KSEBMoolamattom in 2008. She now works as a Senior Assistant and drives herself to work every day, a symbol of independence and self-reliance.

Bennichan Luckose

Bennichan Luckose, born with polio that left him with a disability in both legs and one arm,
came to Mercy Home at the age of four and a half. He learned bookbinding, and in 2000, he
achieved his lifelong dream of starting his own press. Bennichan also founded the
Handicapped Charitable Trust in 2009, through which he continues to support people with
disabilities. His press provides employment to others with disabilities, and he has been
recognized with several awards, including the ‘Snehaprabha’ award from the Merchant
Association Changanassery and the ‘Humanitarian’ award from Rotary International.

Lathamol Gopi

Lathamol Gopi became paralyzed from the waist down after contracting polio at the age of
one and a half. She joined Mercy Home, where she completed her education at Parel School
and St. Anne’s School, winning the Kavukattu Father’s Award and a scholarship in 4th grade.
She later pursued vocational training in Thiruvananthapuram and completed computer, Tally,
and accounting courses at Media Village. Latha now works as an accountant at Mercy Home.
With encouragement from dance teacher Rosamma, she continues to perform and win prizes
in dance competitions. Her inspiring journey was featured in a YouTube video titled "The
Strength of a Woman of Hope," which earned her two awards.

her legs crippled. Despite medical advice that walking would be difficult, Sr. Mariella
performed successful surgery and provided therapy that enabled Jessy to walk with a caliper.
Jessy completed her education and later earned a degree from NSS College,
Changanassery. She now works as a Senior Auditor in government service, proving that
determination and care can lead to incredible achievements.

Lissy Varghese, born with Muscular Dystrophy, faced significant challenges in her early life. She joined Mercy Home when it became difficult for her to continue attending school. With determination and the support of Mercy Home, Lissy completed her education and pursued a course in Civil Draughtsmanship. Today, she works as an Overseer at Manarkad Panchayat and has also been offered the position of Work Superintendent in the Soil Survey and Soil Conservation Department in Alappuzha.

Vaishnavi now works in the laboratory at Samaritan Hospital, demonstrating the power of perseverance and care in shaping a successful future.

On World Women's Day, St. Thomas Hospital, Chettipuzha honored Mercy Home with the "Women Achievement Award 2025" for its dedicated service to the differently-abled. Director Sr. Selin Jose received a memento.

A proud moment for Mercy Home was when Latha was felicitated with a shield at International Women's Day special function organized by the Kottayam Bar Association, recognizing her achievements and contributions.

Meghala Rangaraj received the prestigious 'Excellence Award' from Muthoot Finance for outstanding academic performance among high school students in government schools in Kottayam district. The award ceremony took place at Muthoot Finance Office, Kottayam.

Mercy Home was awarded the 'Snehadeepti' award by the Changanassery Merchants Association for their best social service organization of the year.

"The Woman Power of Hope," showcasing the journey of Latha, a resident who overcame her disability, discovered her talents, and now thrives at Mercy Home. Moved by her story, the Kerala Labour Movement (KLM) of Changanassery Archipatry screened the video and later invited Latha to their Women's Day celebration, where she was honored with a Ponnada and presented with a plaque in recognition of her resilience and achievements.

Neenu Jayan received Child Achiever Award in 2014 for her achievements amidst difficult situations in life, awarded by UNICEF, Chennai through Rajagiri Outreach.

Sr. Mariella got “Sukrutha Sancharam” award for her excellence work among the disabled conducted by Charity World Trust of 90.8 Radio Media Village at Changansassery.

Ms. Lissy Varghese got a ‘Royal Excellence Award’ conducted by Rotary Club Trivandrum Royal on 14 th November 2014, considering her excellence in the field of Dance.

Sr Mariella got “Karunya Sparsam” award conducted by HWRC Charitable Trust, Changanassery. Considering her selfless service for the training, rehabilitation and resettlement of the disabled
